The great thing with airbrush art is that you really do not have to know how to draw. All you need to know how to do is successfully use the stencil that you wish to use for your design. The main key is learning how to control the airbrush gun so that you can get the paint only where you want it and not overcast the paint where you do not want it. Once you master that then your options are endless with the vast array of stencils out there.

A bottom feed or siphon feed airbrush works best when putting airbrush art onto a t-shirt. You should always stick with a name brand airbrush when airbrushing. The best name brands to go with are the Iwata or Badger. The Paasche is also a good quality airbrush to go with. You will save yourself money in the long run when using a name brand versus a generic airbrush.
When choosing an airbrush compressor keep in mind that put airbrush art onto t-shirts does require a high psi. The psi setting should be between 40 to 60. Make sure that your compressor is rated for the type of work you are going to be doing. In this case it will be airbrushing t-shirts. When doing airbrush art onto t-shirts as a business then invest in a commercial air compressor. It will be worth it in the long run.

If you use a paint that does not require heat setting then you should still set the design. A great way to do this with paints that do not require heat setting is to place the t-shirt by itself into a sink full of cold water that has salt mixed into it. The cold water and salt will help to keep the shirt when it is laundered from fading or bleeding.

Most of the times you will need to heat set your paints so that they can be washed without fading or bleeding. Always keep the iron moving though so that you do not burn the material. Another great way if you are doing this at home is to allow the design to dry then turn the shirt inside out and throw it into the dryer for about 40 to 45 minutes on the highest heat setting. After this your design will hold up to laundering.

Blue jean denim is one of the most popular fabrics around.  When jeans wear out, are damaged, or become out of style, denim jeans are often thrown out.  However, you can use that denim fabric in a great craft project instead.  Making gift paper out of old denim jeans is a fabulous way to utilize the old denim jeans fabric.

Materials Needed

1.    Old denim jeans
2.    A blender of food processor
3.    White craft glue
4.    Water in a large flat pan
5.    Screen or mesh in a frame
6.    Drying rack
7.    Scissors

Preparing the Denim Jean Fabric

The first thing to do when preparing the denim jean fabric is to cut up the pair of pants or other clothing item that it comes from.  Cutting the fabric into small pieces is helpful for the process.  Make sure to throw out any seams, rivets, stitched hems, zippers, and any other thick decorations.

After you have a pile of denim jean scraps, put some into your blender or food processor.  Either chop the jeans material up into blue denim fluff, or add some water and blend it into a type of fabric soup.  The method will depend on your style of blender or processor.  If you chop it up dry, you should add water to it at the end.

Building the Tools to Make the Gift Paper

In order to make the denim jeans gift paper, you need a large pan with water in it.  You also need a screen with a sturdy frame that can be handled easily.  You can make this with an old piece of window screen and some wooden boards.  Simply use a utility stapler to affix the screen tightly to a rectangle made from the boards.  The screen area should be about the size you want your finished gift paper to be.

Completing the Denim Jeans Gift Paper
Dump the blue jean denim fabric fluff, or soup, into the rectangular pan full of water.  Add a large amount of the white craft glue and dissolve it in the water.  Swish it around until the material is distributed relatively evenly.  You do not want large clumps.

Then, carefully slide the screen frame into the water under the blue jean fabric.  Without tilting it, pull the screen up so that the denim fibers spread out over the screen.  Make sure they spread evenly by shaking or swishing the screen slightly.

Pick the screen completely out of the water and place it on a rack to drip dry.  When the blue jean material is completely dry, turn the screen over and tap it gently out of the screen.  Trim the edges if you desire.

Following these easy craft instructions, you can make gift paper out of your old denim jeans.  This gift paper not only saves the denim material from the trash, it can be used to write letters or be given as a gift in a stationary set.

It’s a fear that seems at once both reasonable and unreasonable. Reasonable, because it’s common and natural and we understand why the fear exists. Unreasonable, because it’s unnecessary, and because it holds us back.

So let’s start with reasonable. That is, the common problems.

In a lot of cases, the fear of failure is a social thing. We’re afraid that if we fail, we’ll look foolish in front of others, and those who told us we would fail will be proven right.

To that, I say, you can always find someone to run you down. Most people don’t like for others to do something they don’t consider normal or safe.

And many people don’t like for others to succeed. So they pass their negativity and fear onto you.

There are two answers to this problem. The first is to show them that you have a clear plan for making the change you’re making, and that you have a reasonable fallback option if things don’t work out perfectly. The second answer is to ignore them completely. I’ll leave that up to you.

Another obvious cause of the fear of failure comes from when we consider the consequences. It’s perfectly understandable that when you look at the worst case scenario, you’ll be afraid of the worst case scenario. And it’s certainly wise to plan for that. But that’s not the only possibility.

I recently spoke with marketing coach Jonathan Fields about this. His advice in this situation is to ask yourself three questions: What if I fail? What if I do nothing? What if I succeed?

Make sure you come up with good answers for all three questions.

He says that more often than not the people that he’s coached that do this exercise end up taking action and succeeding. And I believe him.

OK, so we understand why it’s reasonable to be afraid to fail. Now let’s talk about why it’s unreasonable. Here it is in a short, pithy sentence: It’s OK to fail.

If you ask me, failure is the best teacher, as long as you pay attention to it, because we learn from our mistakes faster than almost anything else. Faster than we learn from good advice or guidance most of the time, even if it comes from an expert or parent or teacher. We can be told what to do in most situations, but there are a lot of cases where learning as you go is best. And that means that you’re going to make mistakes.

Be honest, you’ve made mistakes before. It wasn’t the end of the world. It only becomes a problem if you keep making the same mistake when you already know that it’s a mistake. Some people do that, but most animals (humans included) are great learners. Kind of like the way you once touched something sharp, hurt yourself, realized that thing is sharp, and decided to be more careful next time. And hopefully, you walked away with only a mild boo-boo.

Well, the same thing is true in your personal development. Most people that are dedicated to their development try new things all of the time. Of course not every new venture works out. And they may screw up a job interview, or fail a test, or lose some money, or whatever, but they stick with it. And they do it again, but now with more knowledge at their disposal.

Why can’t you?

It’s perfectly normal to make mistakes. Hell, it’s normal to fail miserably. And, unfortunately, it’s normal to let that scare you off of ever taking another chance in your life. There’s an old saying that says something along the lines of you’ll regret the things you never tried much more than the things you did try and failed at.

So after all of that blabbering, my basic point is this: If you’re really interested in your own self improvement, then set out a solid plan, make sure you have options if things don’t go exactly according to your plan, and then get to work.

And then, as is inevitable, fail, correct it, do it right the next time.

Look up “henna” online to find great designs you can recreate on your pant legs. This is also a great idea for teens, if your teens agree to not put offensive things on their jeans you can allow them to use the bleach pen to create one of a kind jeans.

If you find yourself bored with your blue jeans or no longer able to wear jeans that you are not willing to sell or give away, don’t leave them forgotten in a corner of your closet. Bring new life to your old jeans so you can continue enjoying them for some time to come.
